Twas the best of times, Twas the worst of times

So I’ve been AWOL from proper blogging for about a month now, so much has been going on that I’ve either not had the time or just not the energy to actually blog about it. If only I could transmit the blog posts written in my head directly online, that would be wonderful.

So in the last month (or so) my hair has gone from this

    profile

    to this!

I’m very happy with it, having gotten so very frustrated with short hair that one can do absolutely nothing with!

As the last part of Mr Twist’s birthday presents, I got us tickets to Karl’s Bühne Gassenschau: Silo 8. It was absolutely amazing! Especially considering it was in Swiss German, in different dialects and with a bit of Italian thrown in to add to any struggling foreigner’s confusion. I was surprised at just how much I understood, even the Italian that I’m trying so desperately to learn. Here’s some pics and a short video clip of the intro.     If you understand German and get a chance to see the show anywhere in Switzerland, I highly recommend it! (FYI, the current show runs until September 26)

I’ve been reading, lots, like someone obsessed – its been crazy!! I got hooked on Twilight thanks to my Angel, who just couldn’t stop talking about it. Being the (wanna-be) cool mom that I am, I figured I’d better know what it is she’s going so mad about. End result is, I know more about Edward, Bella, Jacob, vampires and werewolves than most 14 year olds out there, I even have the DVD (in Blu-Ray no less) and I’ve read all four books in the series as well as Stephanie Meyer’s other much advertised novel The Host (its nothing like the Twilight saga, completely different but also ‘out of this world’). The reading is really to blame for my lack of blogging, all I did was read – on my way to work, from work, while walking in the street, during lunch hour, while watching telly and on it went till I read all 4 novels in the space of 3 weeks.

On August 14th, I attended a wedding in Essen, Gem any (you can read a pre-wedding post here). The wedding itself was beautiful, the bride and groom so happy and in-love, it was inspiring to be part of it. The Saturday morning after the after-wedding  breakfast, Mr Twist headed for Cologne and spent an amazing 24 hours there. I think I’ve found a new favourite city in Germany, besides the riverside restaurants, yummy cupcakes

and 6km long shopping streets; the was also the beautiful Kölner Dom Cathedral, and when the lights went out an electrifying night life! I cannot wait to go back for a longer visit!

There’s also been some stress and panic after a family member in Cape Town caught the much feared H1N1 virus (Swine Flu), this being picked up after he was sent to hospital with pneumonia. Two weeks later and he is on the mend, hopefully going home soon. There was worry that he wouldn’t make it at all, so thank you to the Guardian Angels out there watching over us. A gentle reminder to all out there to be careful, here in Switzerland they seem to be bracing themselves for a pandemic of epic proportions, though I doubt it will get that bad. On the first day of the new school here (two weeks ago) the first thing the kids were taught was how to wash their hands properly as well as easy to remember precautions in avoiding catching the virus. Parents were sent long notes on what to look out for and when to keep your child at home (ranging from a temperature of 38+ degrees to if they’re under a certain again and someone else at home has the flu – any flu). Even in our office, they’ve bought face masks should the need arise to use them. No-one is taking this lightly at all.

This weekend was pretty relaxed, Mr Twist still recovering from a recent football injury (torn/sprained ligaments in his foot). Saturday morning I spent at the hairdresser’s getting my colour done and I even let the stylist dry it differently instead of the normal flat, dead straight look I always go for. (Yay me for being adventurous!). Saturday evening we had a grill on the balcony, one of the last for Summer 09 I’m sure – can’t wait for Winter!!! Sunday morning we went for brunch at Bohemia, its so popular there you ‘have’ to book a table and they’ve even extended brunch to 4pm!! All day English breakfast, flapjacks and maple syrup and and and!! Its a very popular place for most of Zürich expats in search of a little something familiar; and its SO delicious! Mr Twist and I then made a quick stop at Technorama where tomorrow Microsoft will be launching a two month exhibition – a must see!! We then headed up Säntis for a few hours taking in some cool mountain air.

So there it is in a a nutshell – nothing particularly mindblowing has happened, I’m still me and all that. My blog is still moving – just working out the minor necessary bits and making sure I’m 1000000% happy with the site before I let it loose on w-w-w!

    Have a wonderful week!

I was contemplating taking the train to Cologne for a day (haven’t been there before), now I definitely will! Maybe next week I’ll be shopping in Cologne :)
