What a big month September is for me. This particular year, it marks the 5th anniversary of my first arrival in Switzerland. I say first as it was a) the very first time I’d ever been here but also not my official moving to Switzerland date as I went back to SA soon after again in November. (My date of permanent entry and residence in in January when I returned for good.) So yes, 5 years since my arrival in Switzerland!!! Amazing, scary, fun, hateful, romantic, sad, loving, exciting, educating, life changing- that is the last 5 years for me.
Last Saturday, which was to-the-day-of my arrival, we went to see The Hangover (yes, I know, so very delayed, its almost off circuit already). It’s been a long time since I laughed so much, I loved the movie, couldn’t find anything to fault it! After the movie we decided to go to dinner and just co-incidentally, we went to the cinema in Hardbrücke close to MamaAfrica. It seem fated and quite fitting that we go to a restaurant with the “Flavours of South Africa” on this anniversary! Needless to say, it was a complete and utter disappointment, we’d have done better eating from one of the food stalls at the train station than eat there. (A full review to follow soon.) Sunday was a total washout with the worst havfever attack I’ve had all summer, I spent most of the day passed out from over-medication.
One week after I arrived in Switzerland was the Knabenschiesen competition and Chilbi, which Mr Twist and I attended, we’ve made it a tradition to go to this fair every year since then. It’s being held this weekend and I’m definitely going to go and eat fishy bites
, garlic bread, candy floss, take a ride on the Ferris wheel
(yes only the Ferris wheel cos I’m a wimp) and also play lots of carnival games to win silly stuff toys.
This September I also celebrate my first year in my ‘new’ job. Yes, I know its not new anymore, but it still feels like it – in a really good way. I’m more sure of my decision now than ever, changing jobs was the best thing for me. I’m enjoying working for a large, multinational company and best of all is the all the staff I work with and the interesting projects I get to be part of. One clear advantage of the change is that I get to speak a whole lot more German, and not only High German but Schwiizertüütsch too! Not forgetting the fantastic perks of the job too!
Lastly, and certainly not least, September also rings in the end of Summer and start of my favourite two seasons!! I love the cold! I love the colours of Autumn
and the breathtaking beauty of Winter!!!
So yes, September, oh September, what a great month!! Happy celebrating!
